Things You May Not Know About Your New Shredding Truck

So, you’ve just received your shiny, new shredding truck and you’re ready to put it in service. You’re excited and ready to add another reliable piece of Shred-Tech equipment to your business. Before you get to work, here are a few small items that you may not have known about your new truck.

Number 1- You open the rear doors and go to secure them to the side of the truck, and the latch mechanism doesn’t line up!

Rest assured that this is normal. Each rear door works on a two-way hinge which allows for some forward/reverse movement. If the latch doesn’t line up, with the door open all the way, simply push, or pull the door parallel to the sides of the truck until you’ve got it lined up to the mechanism correctly. No sweat, no problem.

Number 2- The chassis wipers aren’t working when set to full speed while I am parked! Don’t worry!

This is a normal safety feature built into your truck by the chassis manufacturer. If your parking brake is engaged, the wipers will default to the slowest speed setting automatically. This is done for several reasons. First, less wear and tear on the wiper components when the wipers aren’t fully needed – fewer wiper blade changes and less stress placed on the wiper motors. Second, there is no need for the driver to remember to turn the wipers back to the previously selected speed. Once the parking brake is released, the wipers will revert to the previous setting.

Number 3- You don’t have to keep jumping in and out of the cab to restart the walking floor when moving it ahead a few feet.

You’re unloading the truck and the paper is piling up at the rear. You need to pull the truck ahead a few feet to make room for more paper to fall. Some people think that they need to jump in the cab, move the truck ahead, and then jump out of the cab again to hit the walking floor switch. Nope! Inside the cab, on the micro control screen, there is a “floor resume” feature labelled to a button. Move the truck ahead. Put it in park, and then hit this button to resume the walking floor.

Number 4 – You can change which components automatically shut down using our “predictive engine” feature.

We equip all our trucks with a predictive engine-automatic shutdown feature to save fuel, noise and prevent excess equipment usage when the truck is not in use. You can select which items shut down depending on your situation. Is it the middle of summer and you want to keep the chassis running at low idle to keep the cab cool but have everything else shut down? Simply change it in the menu screen. Is it a freezing cold day and you want everything to continue running to keep the hydraulic oil at its nominal temperature and the cab nice and warm? Simply unselect all the options under predictive engine in the menu. This will ensure that you are both running efficiently and comfortably throughout the year.
